Overview - Italy
 |
 |
|
Spend an academic year, semester, or summer exploring the language, people, art, and, of course, the food of Tuscany while studying in its capital city of Florence. Studying through ELI in Florence gives you the opportunity to submerge yourself in Italian culture while earning credit hours towards your degree at your home University. ELI will help you plan every step of your time abroad to make the process as easy as possible.
This program is ideal for students wanting to study fine art, liberal arts, art history, and the Italian language. With Global Studies Abroad, you will get a superior educational experience while living in Florence. Once you arrive you will participate in an in-depth orientation that will cover everything you need to know for a successful semester or summer in Florence. Throughout the semester we will offer cultural activities such as cooking classes, wine tours and film nights.
The school we partner with has professional photography, printmaking, paper making, book binding, and graphic art studio space in addition to an art gallery that hosts world-renowned exhibits. The campus has a strong sense of community and students often feel as if they are part of a big family in Florence; all while studying within a short walk from the historic Duomo and Baptistry.

Housing
|

Students are housed in residential apartments located within a 20 minute walk from the main campus. All apartments are fully furnished with the essential necessities for independent living. Apartments are equipped with:
- Kitchen with refrigerator and stove
- Dishes, pots, pans, flatware, and glasses
- Bathroom with bath and/or shower
- Blankets and pillows
- Telephones are NOT provided
Apartments are traditional European and vary in size with a combination of single and double bedrooms (4-6 people average per apartment). Very few of the apartments in Florence have air-conditioning and some do not have washing machines. Cellular phones are easily available for rental at an inexpensive rate. Students with particular needs may want to arrange their own housing. Important Note: most rooms in Florentine apartments are double occupancy. We CANNOT guarantee any student a single room. Students are required to indicate a second choice when submitting a housing application.
Check in & Check out: The apartments are available on the program start date when students check in and ends on the check out date (see dates and prices page). Students spending a second semester will have the option of housing in between terms. Students will not have access to their apartments at any other time.
